TrEdit

TrEdit is an interactive tool which simplifies creation of troubleshooter or question and answer style help. It can create either stand-alone HTML files for use with a web browser or a Windows HTML help (.chm) file. (Note: Windows HTML help output is only available in the Windows version and requires the Microsoft HTML Help compiler.)

Troubleshooter help is created from a series of topics linked in a tree-like structure. Each topic typically either offers a solution or asks a question and displays several possible answers, each answer leading to a further topic. Each topic is stored in a separate text file. The names of these files are managed automatically. Troubleshooter help files provide a more structured alternative to general-purpose help files, as created by HelpEd.

TrEdit automatically applies consistent formatting to the topic title and options across topics. Embedded HTML tags in the topic text can be used to apply additional formatting or effects within a topic.

The built-in topic editor includes various editing features in common with our WED editor, such as find all, HTML tag generation, insert file/date/time/colour, save/print selection, goto line, etc. Under Windows, the editor also supports HTML syntax highlighting.
